Abacus Skip Hire is a long established family owned business operating a fleet of skip lorries and other waste type vehicles. Below is a selection of frequently asked questions that should help you choose the right skip at the right price. Is my skip going to be sited on a road?
If you require a skip to be sited on a road (public highway) then a permit is require from the appropriate council. This permit needs to be applied for by the skip hire company, as it is a requirement to carry the appropriate liability insurances and to satisfy the council's protocol relating to the standard of service providers. As always with councils, there is a charge for the permits, which does vary from council to council, but typically Bristol City Council offer a 28 day permit for £35 + VAT. This cost is simply added to the basic charge for whichever skip you choose to hire and we then apply for the permit. Please allow 48 hours to give notice and to allow for the processing of the permit before the skip can be sited.

What access is needed to deliver a skip?
Should you require a skip to be delivered off a road, then it is important to check that you have the appropriate access. There are principally two sizes of vehicle that we deliver skips with. To access a driveway or off street area, a minimum of width of 8ft 4" is required for the vehicle delivering a 3 or 4 cu.yd skip and a minimum width of 9ft is required to deliver an 8cu.yd skip.

- Our office is open to receive calls from 6am to 5pm Monday to Friday and 6am to 12 on Saturdays.
- Our office staff have extensive knowledge of the waste industry and will be able to answer any questions you might have regarding your skip hire or waste requirements.
- Any waste disposed of in an Abacus skip is taken to our purpose built recycling center where the different waste types are segregated and , where ever possible, sent for recycling so that the environmental impact for any of our customers disposing of waste is kept to an absolute minimum.
- As with most industries, skip hire has it's share of 'cowboy operators' who flout some if not all of the legislation. We always aim to offer excellent value and give our customers the satisfaction that they are dealing with an environmentally responsible company.
